About Us

Craig Johnson graduated from Brigham Young University in 2000 with a BS in Business Finance and BYU Law School in 2004. After clerking with several Fourth District Utah Judges for a year, he prosecuted for 15 years (2 years with the Weber County Attorney’s Office; 13 years for the Utah County Attorney’s Office), before moving into the private sector and opening his own private criminal defense law firm, Craig Johnson Law, PLLC, in 2020.

Craig is an Eagle Scout who served as a Provo Utah School District Attendance Court Magistrate in 2012-13, six years on the Utah Standing Committee on Court Interpreters, has graded bar exams for 13 years, and served on the Utah Supreme Court Advisory Committee on Rules of Criminal Procedure, the Utah State BCI eWarrant Board, and the Utah State Advisory Board on Children’s Justice.

He has extensive trial experience (including over 100 felony jury trials) across a wide spectrum of cases, including murder, DUI, robbery, burglary, child molestation, weapons offenses, counterfeit currency, domestic violence homicide, child abuse, and rape. He has trained law enforcement on criminal procedure and case law updates through multi-disciplinary teamwork. He has drafted and testified on Utah’s Capitol Hill about over 10 legislative bills to improve the criminal justice system the past 2 decades, including spearheading Utah’s Civil Commitment Law change, which now takes sex offender recidivism into account as a relevant risk factor. As a criminal defense attorney, he has served over 1,500 clients with a wide variety of their urgent needs at his successful law practice in Spanish Fork.
